Subject: eBird Report - Oxbow Lake, Apr 23, 2018

Oxbow Lake, Anne Arundel, Maryland, US
Apr 23, 2018 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Protocol: Traveling
1.5 mile(s)

Comments: Conditions: 69°F, Partly Cloudy, E wind 5 mph, Gusts 8 mph. First of spring today: Green Heron, Spotted Sandpiper, Killdeer, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, Eastern Kingbird. The dam failed even more after the Little Patuxent River's 8.2 feet gauge height on 16 April 2018 flooded the outlet channel back into Oxbow lake. The water that poured into the lake, also receded back into the outlet channel probably washing away the mud that was maintaining the structure of the dam. Will have to go back to take pictures to assess the damage. Lots of mud. Watched Snapping Turtle love today. Lots of turtles sunning on snags, frogs jumping from the shoreline, fish splashing in the water. Watched a group of 4 Great Blue Herons, one of which had caught a very large fish and was attempting to swallow it. Two of the others had different ideas about the fish and tried to make the heron drop it.
