Beaver Lake was pretty calm all day, so was good for viewing waterfowl. We stopped at several places on the lake’s north side: dam site, Indian Creek Park, Lost Bridge North and South Parks, and old Glade on Slate Gap Road. Most numerous: Horned Grebes (201). These were concentrated off old Glade. One raft resting in a shallow cover included at least 128 Horned Grebes, plus a single Eared Grebe that has acquired part of its breeding plumage. Black neck and wispy yellow plumes quite evident in sunlight, plus it was mainly by itself. Not many Common Goldeneyes now – 6 for the day. We saw 3 Common Loons, including one off Lost Bridge South that has acquired most of its distinctive summer plumage.
