I have often been curious what goes bump (or peent!) in the night and so recently I set up an audio recorder near a decent woodcock spot in Sterling VA. It captured 5 nights of audio data and I spent a little time listening and analyzing what I found.
summary: 1) Woodcock displays were starting around 6pm to 6:10pm most nights (2/15 to 2/19) 2) Morning displays were more variable at start time 3) There were displays in the middle of the night! 4) Barred Owls only vocalized for a few minutes each night - this was good Barred Owl habitat 5) The area probably has Coyotes (coy-wolves) based upon some recordings captured 6) spring peepers and wood frogs really enjoyed the recent rains 7) plenty of unexplained noises (literally sounding like bumps) during the night

More details: 2/15 6:10 pm first peent and shortly thereafter display 6:25 pm last peent 2:10 am woodcock display 2:35 am barred owl for a couple minutes 3:10 am woodcocks stil peenting rain starts 4:25 am peent and display despite continuing rain - barred owl too 4:37 am rain picks up and last peent for a bit 5:08 am - 6:45 am peents despite rain 6:25 am with displays
