Bonaparte's Gulls are very small, much smaller than a Mew Gull. This would be pretty obvious in a flock of G-wings. Franklin's are scarce indeed, but have been well documented repeatedly both at the coast and in the Willamette Valley. In early winter all typical white-headed species of gull in western Oregon have a dark gray hood except Westerns. The past week I've noticed most have now lost that hood. Some still have it, but even a California Gull is unlikely to attract attention as "smaller-sized". The actual species "Black-headed Gull" is typically not hooded in winter.
But it has been breeding in North America for decades and there are several recent Oregon records. lpn
