Ruff (Calidris pugnax) (1) - Reported Jan 03, 2018 11:30 by Mike Wheeler - Eckman Lake, Lincoln, Oregon - Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=44.4124476,-124.0335846&ll=44.4124476,-124.0335846 - Checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S41598571 - Comments: "First found and photographed by Evan Hayduk on 01/02/18. With a mixed flock of the other shorebirds listed. Slightly smaller than Greater Yellowlegs. Head noticeably small in proportion to body. Bill black and appeared shorter than a Dunlin. Whitish feathers around base of bill. Legs a dark greenish. All feathers on back very dark with a light fringe around them. Based on size and coloration I believe this to be a female, but I am not positive."
Ruff (Calidris pugnax) (1) - Reported Jan 03, 2018 12:10 by Team Ona - Eckman Lake, Lincoln, Oregon - Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=44.4124476,-124.0335846&ll=44.4124476,-124.0335846 - Checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S41602825 - Comments: "The Ruff was originally found yesterday on the north shore of Alsea Bay by Evan Hayduk and was re-found today at Eckman Lake by Mike Wheeler. Mike was still present when we arrived at Eckman Lake and had the Ruff in a spotting scope for us to look at. The Ruff had a small head (dove-like) and a plump body that was larger than a Dowitcher (sp.) but smaller than a Greater Yellowlegs (all three species were in close proximity to each other). Other characteristics of the Ruff were white at the base of its dark bill and large scalloped wing coverts. Mike had also observed before we arrived that the Ruff had greenish legs. A great find by Evan and a great re-find by Mike. Thank you both!"
