This is the New Mexico Rare Bird Report for November 27, 2017 sponsored by the New Mexico Ornithological Society. CIBOLA County: --Rustay and Shoop reported four SURF and two WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS at Bluewater Lake November 19. Egelhoff and Hetrick found a BLACK SCOTER with the other scoters later that day. All three species continued to November 26, up to seven Surfs, two White-winged, and one Black.
COLFAX County: --Parmeter reported a LONG-TAILED DUCK at Maxwell NWR November 24. It was seen on Lake 13.
--Parmeter reported a RED-THROATED LOON at Springer Lake November 24.
DONA ANA County: --Chaon reported two WHITE-TAILED KITES at the NuttHatch Playa November 19. One continued in the area to November 25 for Rustay and Drilling.

--Egelhoff reported a CAROLINA WREN at Leasburg Dam SP November 14.
EDDY County: --Hines reported a GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at Rattlesnake Springs November 26.
--Nieman reported a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK at Washington Ranch November 5. It was seen at adjacent Rattlesnake Springs November 19.
HIDALGO County: --Rustay, Hertick, and Egalhoff reported a RUFOUS-BACKED ROBIN in the New Mexico portion of Guadalupe Canyon October 21. It was found near the old cistern and orchard.
--Webster and Rowlett reported a RUFOUS-WINGED SPARROW in Guadalupe Canyon May 13. Up to seven were present in the canyon October 21 for Rustay, Hetrick, and Egelhoff.
LOS ALAMOS County: --a PACIFIC WREN was reported at the confluence of Pueblo and Acid Canyons in Los Alamos November 10. Two have been reported at Upper Water Canyon to November 25.
OTERO County: --Hawksworth reported a YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER at Alameda Park in Alamogordo November 9. It was seen at the northern end of the park near a tan metal foot bridge.
SIERRA County: --Oldenettel reported hearing the GREAT KISKADEE at Percha Dam Recreation Area September 4. It heard south of the playground and continued to November 13.
RIO ARRIBA County: --NOTE: There is a $5 entrance fee to bird at Ohkay Owingeh Lakes.
SOCORRO County: --an adult GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was banded at the Bosque del Apache NWR Headquarters November 19.
--Retter and Gordon reported a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at Bosque del Apache NWR November 16. It has been reported at various areas around the refuge to November 18.
--CAROLINA WRENS are currently at various locations at Bosque del Apache NWR; recent reports have come from the Unit 17B Moist Soil Management area and the Willow Deck.
