Observation start time: 09:00:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 6 hours
Official Counter: Ken Klapper
Observers: Judd Nathan, Tom McShane
Visitors: Seventeen, including several friends of the observatory who helped make for a fun day!
Weather: Cool, but sunny to start, with clouding making for a colder feeling day in the afternoon. Increasing SE winds seemed to axe the flight.
Raptor Observations: A dozen migrants of five species. Two Bald Eagles (an adult and a young-of-the-year) did not migrate. An adult Red-tailed Hawk posed in perfect lighting on a close orchard post - unfortunately all photographers had left.
Non-raptor Observations: Thirty-one Ring-billed Gulls, a Northern Flicker, Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers, 37 Am. Crows, several Blue Jays, a Chickadee, 17 Am. Robins, four E. Bluebirds, four Starlings, 10 Juncos, two Purple Finch, 10 Am. Goldfinch, and a few House Sparrows.
Predictions: Cold - highs will be just below freezing - with ripping winds out of the northwest. Will they bring a large raptor of the northern climes?? If you come, please dress for the weather! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Ken Klapper (<kklapper...>) Carter Hill Observatory information may be found at: www.nhaudubon.org
