Subject: [obol] Deschutes county, ECAS Wednesday Birders, Dry River Canyon, east of Bend
We went east and had a nice morning with birds active in the sunshine.
There were flocks moving low in the rabbitbrush in several places,
mostly Yellow-rumps, sparrows and bluebirds. The area where Hooker Creek
has an operation was birdy as usual, presumably due to the water that
spills near where trucks leave the site. Around time to head back it
became cold, cloudy and windy and the bird activity stopped. Although
they were requested for the morning and an instigator promoted them,
Pinyon Jays weren't found until we got back to Bend when one carload
pulled over and watched them in a large Ponderosa pine near 9th and
Greenwood. Next week, Alfalfa, Houston Lake, Prineville area.
