Total observation time: 11.5 hours

Official Counter: Anna Stunkel

Observers: Betsy Foster, Bob Anderson, Brian Taber, Chris Foster,
Hal Wierenga, Harry Armistead, Joe Beatty, Katie Garst,
Lynn Davidson, Ned Brinkley, Rudy Cashwell,
Steve Thornhill, Thuy Tran

Weather:
Winds were moderate and variable, generally from the northeast and east
northeast. Skies were mostly clear in the morning and partly cloudy in the
afternoon. Temperatures were in the sixties.

Raptor Observations:
It was a slow day. The morning was most active.

Non-raptor Observations:
The highlight of the day was a Roseate Spoonbill, which was seen flying low
over the horizon just west of Rt. 13 at 10:24 am EST, heading southwards.
Due to the bird's distance from us we did not manage to get any photos, but
it was seen by a total of 12 observers. Like the Wood Stork, this is a new
species for the Kiptopeke hawkwatch. Several other spoonbill sightings have
occurred this year in the Hampton Roads area. Other observations included:

1 Black-bellied Plover
1 Cliff Swallow
1 Dickcissel
1 Eastern Meadowlark
1 Great Horned Owl
1 Northern Rough-winged Swallow
1 Wilson's Snipe

202 Monarchs
