Subject: IBET Chicago Botanic Garden & Both Technys Wed 9-6-17
Hello Bird People,

After yesterday's stationary Lake & Hawk Watches it was back to
birding while walking & looking for shorebirds. Started at the Botanic
Garden followed by Techny North & then Techny Basin South.
I saw 7 shorebird species & all were of the most common kinds. Saw a
few Warblers at the CBG even though I was not looking for them.

Chicago Botanic Garden (7:30-9:30 a.m.)

D.C. Cormorant (2 fly-bys), Great Blues (2) & Great Egret (1)
Canada Goose (4 & 7 fly-bys), Mallard (11) & G.W. Teal (4)
Killdeer (17), Solitary (4), Spotted (2), Least (1) & Semipalmated (2)
Sandpipers
Mourning Dove (4) & Kingfisher (1-M)
Least Flycatcher (1)
Blue Jay (H-2), Crow (H-1) & Chickadee (2)
Both RED BREASTED (2) & White Breasted (1) Nuthatches
Thrush Species? (1), Robins (4) & Gray Catbird (1)
Warbling (2) & Red Eyed (1) Vireo's
CAPE MAY (2). Magnolia (3) & Palm (1) Warblers & Redstart (2)
Cardinal (1-M), Song Sparrow (4) & Red Winged Blackbird (1-AD-M & 3 young ones)
House Finch (5), Goldfinch (~10) & House Sparrow (2)

Techny Basin North (10-10:30 a.m.)

D.C. Cormorant (3), Great Blues (3) & Great Egret (1)
Canada Goose (3), Wood Duck (~20), Mallard (14), Blue Winged Teal (7)
& SHOVELER (1-F)
Red Tailed Hawk (1 hunting)
Killdeer (51), Semipalmated Plover (3) & Lesser Yellowlegs (1)
Solitary (1), Spotted (1), Least (1) & Semipalmated (7) Sandpipers
Mourning Dove (2) & Barn Swallow (~20)
Gray Catbird (1), Palm Warbler (1) & Goldfinch (4-6)

Techny Basin South (10:40-11:35 a.m.)

Great Blues (4) & Great Egret (also 4)
Canada Goose (59), Mallard (61) & SHOVELER (1-M)
Killdeer (13), Solitary (7) & Spotted (1) Sandpipers
Rock Pigeon (1) & Mourning Dove (2)
Kingfisher (1) & Barn Swallow (15)
Eastern Kingbird (1 of the nesting family remains)
Goldfinch (4)

A quick stop at Air Station Prairie found no water at all & the mud
flats are dried & cracking.

Runners-Up to the 2 Red Breasted Nuthatches & the 2 Shovelers
