9/1 - New Haven - Lighthouse Point Park Hawkwatch - 26 migrating raptors: 1 Turkey Vulture (!), 13 Osprey, 1 Northern Harrier, 2 Bald Eagles (adult), 1 Broadwinged Hawk, 6 American Kestrels, 2 Merlins. Also 2 local PEREGRINE FALCONS, 1 local Cooper's Hawk, 5 or more local Osprey and 2 local Turkey Vultures seen. In the park were: Great Egret, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Rock Pigeon, 8 flyover Yellowlegs, Black-crowned Night Heron, Fish Crow, Belted Kingfishers, Carolina Wren, House Finch, American Goldfinch, Greater Black-backed Gull, Blue Jay, Eur. Starling, and Kildeer--as well as 3 COMMON RAVENS. Other migrants: 1 Laughing Gull, 6+ Eastern Kingbirds, 70 Blue-grey Gnatcatchers, 3 American Goldfinches, 220 Cedar Waxwings, 180 Chimney Swifts, 130 Tree Swallows, 37 Barn Swallows, 7 Bank Swallows, 3 Cliff Swallows, 1 Cave Swallow, 120 Bobolinks, 10 Red-winged Blackbirds, and 3 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. Thanks to a crack team of observers: Frank Mantlik, Bill Banks, Sol Satin, and Howie Sternberg.
