Subject: [CT Birds] International Coastal Cleanup Day 16 Sept 2017
Please post the following for those who value Sandy Point:
In coordination with Savethe Sound, a program of the Connecticut Fund for the Environment (CFE), we arehosting the 12th annual West Haven shoreline cleanup, including Sandy Point, an “ImportantBird Area.” This event, taking place from 9am to noon on 16 September 2017, is part of Ocean Conservancy's global "InternationalCoastal Cleanup Day."  Volunteersinclude members of Audubon, the New Haven Bird Club, West Haven WatershedRestoration Group, students, and others. The cleanup will helpprevent predators, attracted by trash, from becoming accustomed to visitingSandy Point, one of the most important sites in Connecticut for Piping Ploversand other beach-nesting bird species. Plus, the litter data will be used by OceanConservancy to help stop litter at its source worldwide.
