Last week Ann and I made the trip to Grand Junction. We were rewarded with
some great bird sounds and bird sightseeings.

Devil's Kitchen trail at Colorado National Monument has this massive rock
monolith that had a group of about 15 calling White-throated Swifts
circling above this beautiful rock structure. The echoes of their calls in
the "Kitchen" was really fun to record. It is on the eBird checklist if you
want to listen.

Colorado – Wed Apr 12, 2017 – 15 species

Also, on this list are some recordings of a singing Black-throated Sparrow.
Just love that song. The last recording of the sparrow is it's chipping
notes and you can hear a Canyon Wren in the background.

In the sagebrush north of town we missed the Sage Sparrow but got a
Sandhill Crane, several Sage Thrashers and 4 Long-billed Curlews.

On the way down we stopped at Cameo and Coal Canyon and missed the Chukar
but got it on the way back. If you hit this Canyon be sure to go to the end
of road and hike a little in the Canyon. It looks really dry but their is a
lot of life. We got to see 6 Wild Horses and 4 Bighorn Sheep. Also got a
recording of a Rock Wren. What a wonderfully varied song he has.

And definitely make time to hit the Wine Vineyards in Palisade. My favorite
was the Riesling at Grand River Vineyards.
