Observation start time: 09:00:00 Observation end time: 18:00:00 Total
observation time: 9 hours Official Counter: Lewis Grove Observers: Bob
Fredrick, Chuck Widmann, Joe Verica, Nick Bolgiano Visitors: Jon Kauffman
Weather: Partly cloudy early with moderate E winds. Dark clouds built
throughout the day, mostly to the south as rain moved into the area.
Overcast by the end of the day, with stronger winds having shifted around
to the SE. Raptor Observations: Good flight today, including the first
Broad-winged Hawk of the season at 1208 EST. The final Golden Eagle of the
day appeared very close over the trees on the SE side of the ridge with a
raven practically riding on its back. The raven "escorted" the eagle across
the powerline cut before circling back around. Fewer adult eagles these
days, it seems. GOEA: 1215 Unk, 1305 Unk, 1328 Juv, 1435 Sub BAEA: 1129
Imm, 1248 Imm, 1333 Imm, 1430 Imm, 1535 Imm, 1630 Imm Non-raptor
Observations: Notably more songbirds around the ridge today. There were
multiple mixed flocks along the ridge, including notably increased numbers
of kinglets, juncos and creepers. The kinglets and juncos were practicing
their songs a bit, the first time I've heard such this spring. GOEA: 1215
Unk, 1305 Unk, 1328 Juv, 1435 Sub BAEA: 1129 Imm, 1248 Imm, 1333 Imm, 1430
Imm, 1535 Imm, 1630 Imm Predictions: Rain early, though likely clearing up
somewhat by late morning. Potentially very strong WSW winds in the
afternoon. Tough to say how much of a flight there will be.
