Subject: Lancaster Co. Bird Club Mtg on Thurs., 4/6/17 with Burt Filemyer presenting on the History of Ornithology in the DE Valley
The Lancaster County Bird Club will meet Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium of the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Rd., Lancaster, PA.

Bert Filemyer is an active birder both in the Delaware Valley and throughout North America. He will present "A Brief History of Ornithology in the Delaware Valley." We live in an area of the U.S. that was the cornerstone of early American ornithology. His presentation will follow a timeline of local people and places that are important in ornithological history. Come and learn about well-known people like John Bartram, Alexander Wilson and John James Audubon. Also learn about species that have moved into the area and species that we have lost. Retired from a public school teaching career, he recently completed a long term goal of seeing at least 100 species in each of the lower 48 states. He currently serves as treasurer and webmaster of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club (DVOC) and was a member of the championship Nikon/DVOC World Series of Birding Team. He co-authored, along with Jeff Hold, the book "The Composite Prints of Audubon's Birds of America" and a major article on Alexander Wilson in the Wilson Journal of Ornithology.

A short business meeting will precede the program. The public is invited to attend free of charge and may call 717-393-2546 with questions. More information about the club can be found on its website at www.lancasterbirdclub.org<http://www.lancasterbirdclub.org/> and on Facebook @ Lancaster Bird Club.
