Subject: [MASSBIRD] Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, Acoaxet 3/18
Saturday 3/18, we spent the day birding in FAIRHAVEN and adjacent
MATTAPOISETT. WE had the following totals:

Common Loon (21); Horned Grebe (32); Great Cormorant (13); Great Blue Heron
(1); Turkey Vulture (3); Canada Goose (116); Brant (164); Mute Swan (2);
Gadwall (38: all in Mattapoisett); A Black Duck (81); Mallard (95);
Green-winged Teal (1); Greater Scaup (530); Common Eider (121); Surf Scoter
(138); Long-tailed Duck (82); Bufflehead (571); Common Goldeneye (111);
Hooded Merganser (2); Red-breasted Merganser (31); N Harrier (1);
Sharp-shinned Hawk (1); Red-shouldered Hawk (3); Killdeer (5); American
Oystercatcher (1); Wilson's Snipe (1). Passerines were typical EXCEPT we did
not have one Carolina Wren, even though we drove around for most of the day
with the windows open, hoping we would hear one.



Later, we birded ACOAXET and had the following: Common Loon (1);
Double-crested Cormorant (7); Great Cormorant (12); Great Blue Heron (2);
Black Vulture (1); Turkey Vulture (14); Canada Goose (850); Mute Swan (37);
Gadwall (9); Eurasian Wigeon (1m); American Wigeon (111); A Black Duck
(416); Mallard (44); N Pintail (136); Greater Scaup (121); Common Eider
(19); Harlequin Duck (4); Surf Scoter (8); Bufflehead (294); Hooded
Merganser (10); Red-breasted Merganser (62); Osprey (1); Red-shouldered Hawk
(1); Red-tailed Hawk (2); Merlin (1).
