Subject: Quivira report 22 February 2017
A couple of notables from this morning, 22 February, at Quivira: still around 6,000 or so Sandhill Cranes on the west side of Big Salt Marsh at first light, along with about a dozen Tundra Swans. There was a very friendly Sedge Wren in the same place (along NE 170th, about 1/4 mile east of the the NE 105th junction) as reported by Hough on 2/5. Also a pair of Cinnamon Teal further east on NE 170th in a pool by the bridge, and two Killdeer in Unit 11. Yesterday (2/12) at first light there were 2 Short-eared Owls flying over the grasslands north of NE 170th.
