Red-naped Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus nuchalis) (1)
- Reported Dec 05, 2025 08:20 by Kevin Zimmer
- Cuesta Canyon Park, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.6439451&<ll...>,-120.6439451
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S287607622

- Comments: "Female, as evidenced by the small white chin patch directly below the base of the lower mandible, amid an otherwise red throat. The boldly black-and-white-striped sides of the head and sharply delineated red throat, with a blackish lower border eliminated Red-breasted Sapsucker, and the prominent amount of red below the black bar on the nape, along with the different back pattern (more solidly black areas, with white organized into stripes down the scapulars, as opposed to more uniformly checkerboard) eliminated Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. This bird gave a few typical single-note mewing calls, but was otherwise silent and extremely unobtrusive in its behavior, scooting around the backside of trunks or flying at the slightest movement on my part. First reported from this location yesterday afternoon by Eric Wier."

- Comments: "An underestimate I believe. Seen in the general area where Ive been seeing them."
