Subject: [centralvalleybirds] May 2025 Tall Forest bird survey on Saturday the 17th
Dear Birders,

There are still a few spots for Saturday's bird survey of the Tall Forest
and environs at the Cosumnes River Preserve in southern Sacramento County.
Reply to this e-mail if interested.

I'd like to say that the birding has been good, but it has not. Diversity
has been poor. Here's what I turned up on Sunday:
bald eagle- 2
acorn woodpecker- 2
western wood-pewee- 12
western flycatcher- 1 (FOS)
warbling vireo- 1 (FOS)
Swainson's thrush- 18
Bullock's oriole- 20
common yellowthroat- 10
MacGillivray's warbler- 1 (FOS)
yellow warbler- 8 (all in likely breeding localities, based on recent
years)
Wilson's warbler- 4
western tanager- 3
black-headed grosbeak- 40

The rice fields are being flooded up. But none have had time for any kind
of invertebrate bloom, so nothing was on them.

Best,
John Trochet
Sacramento
