This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for November 22, 2024.


An INCA DOVE continued along the Los Angeles River in Elysian Valley through November 21. Google Earth coordinates 34.0964, -118.2412. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was here on November 17 and an INDIGO BUNTING was present from November 17-18.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on November 15.

An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER continued at Malibu Lagoon through November 17.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued in the Ballona area in Playa del Rey through November 18. It associates with Black-bellied Plovers either along the creek above Pacific Ave. or on the adjacent salt pan.

A VEGA GULL was along the Los Angeles River in Vernon from November 17-21. It has been seen at the Downey Road crossing and at 26th Street.

LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera on November 15, at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia on November 14 and along the Los Angeles River at 26th Street and at the Bandini crossing- two birds- on November 18.

TRICOLORED HERONS were at the Duck Pond in the western part of El Dorado Park in Long Beach on November 20 and at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on November 22.

A WESTERN CATTLE EGRET was along the Los Angeles River at Downey Road on November 17.

The DUSKY-CAPPED FLYCATCHER at Vincent Lugo Park in San Gabriel continued through November 17. It has been seen at the east end of the park.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through November 15 (east of the end of Mines Ave.) and two were along the Los Angeles River at the Willow Street crossing in Long Beach on November 19.

The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD in Griffith Park was seen through November 19. Google Maps coordinates 34.1407, -118.2885. It has also been seen in the nearby golf course parking lot.

The EASTERN PHOEBE at Lake Lindero in Agoura Hills was seen through November 16 near the spillway.

A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW continued at the Ballona Creek mouth in Playa del Rey through November 16, west of the end of Pacific Ave. bridge on the jetty.

The West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood hosted a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW on November 21, a GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE through November 21 and a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER from November 14-17.

The DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued in Sailboat Cove at Bonelli Regional Park through November 19.

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS included two at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through November 21 by Picnic Area 2 on the north shore and one at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on November 19, one in Claremont from November 16-19.

A SAGEBRUSH SPARROW was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required for entry) on November 19.

A SWAMP SPARROW was in Area 2 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach on November 21.

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was in Zuma Canyon in Malibu on November 16.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through November 19.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was at Bixby Park in Long Beach on November 20.

A PALM WARBLER was near the dam outflow at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale on November 18.

The PAINTED REDSTART at San Dimas Canyon Park was seen by the restrooms near the entrance through November 19.

SUMMER TANGERS were at Culver West Alexander Park in Culver City on November 15 and at Murphy Ranch Park in La Habra Heights on November 18.

BLUE GROSBEAKS included a continuing bird at the north end of the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through November 15 and one along the Los Angeles River in Elysian Valley from November 19-21.
