Hello Everyone,
Rehabber and wildlife advocate Laura Kiesel announced that 2 recent owl deaths in the area were lab verified as rodenticide poisoning. One was a Great Horned Owl at Habitat, and the other was an Arlington Barred Owl.
The labs, which consist of a liver sample and a full necropsy, are both critical and underfunded. The state pesticide board is considering whether to recommend that the state ban the use of secondary rodenticides (SGARs), but they need these tests to base their recommendations on. Unfortunately they don't have the funds for the tests, and neither do the rehabbers.
Laura's organization, Save Mass Wildlife, is accepting donations for these important tests. She is coordinating with other rehabbers and vets across the state to get their cases tested. A liver test costs $120, and a full necropsy costs $200. If you would like to donate to this cause, you can fund either of the tests, or donate any amount you can afford.
To donate, go to https://www.savemasswildlife.org and click the blue "Donate" button. IMPORTANT: On the donation form (under "Payment Notes"), indicate which test you would like your donation to go toward.
