Subject: [ia-bird] Merlins at Glendale
Yesterday afternoon (11/20) I went through Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines
a little early due to the heavily overcast sky with flurries and a brisk NW
wind. At 4:18 pm I found a Merlin atop one of the storm-damaged oak trees
in Block K, just NW of the pond. It was actively feeding on a small bird
of undetermined species. A few minutes later another Merlin landed in one
of the broken locust trees a little farther up the hill in Block K. At
4:28, the one in the oak took off and strafed the other one, after which
both flew off to the west and north. I located one in a broken locust in
Block H at 4:32, and it stayed there until after sunset (4:50).
