Time: 0700 to 1000 AM

Comments:  A strange morning in waterfowl flight direction.  Most of the large flocks of Red-breasted Merganser were moving east while nearly all scaup were moving west.  Heaviest flights were during the first hour after sunrise.  Just two large flocks of Red-breasted Merganser made up for more than 50% of the that species total. Highlights were an adult Parasitic Jaeger and an adult Little Gull.  Both seen moving well offshore.  Roger Donn assisted with the count. Waterbirds recorded: Mallard  12Green-winged Teal  2Greater Scaup  450Lesser Scaup  700Scaup species  220Surf Scoter  4White-winged Scoter  37Long-tailed Duck  2Bufflehead  12Red-breasted Merganser  5400Horned Grebe  7LITTLE GULL  1 adult moving westPARASITIC JAEGER  1 light morph adultRed-throated Loon  8Common Loon  1Loon species  6 Other birds moving along the lake: BaldEagle  2
