Subject: [SFBirds] Mountain Bluebird at Amador Street hotspot
Hi SF Birders,

Yesterday evening I found a young Mountain Bluebird in the large gravel lot that is across Amador Street from Pier 94. It’s continuing this morning according to some birder reports.

For those of you who don’t know the area. This is the same spot that Dominik made into a new hotspot a couple of weeks ago when he found a Tropical Kingbird there. It’s a huge gravelly area (officially “Site F”)with some environmental issues, owned by the Port Commission that the city used for an RV park during Covid. The city had 120 RVs on the site, but cleared it out last winter. Now it’s been regraded and the weeds are coming back - actually a promising spot this winter for field birds like pipits, larks or longspurs, since it it weedy and visible to a bird from the bay. You should check it out while you can before the Port authorities fence it off or worse.

The Mountain Bluebird was moving around freely, I first picked it up in the weeds below one of the locked gates (for traffic, it’s open to foot traffic on both sides), and then photographed it while it was on some fresh plant trimmings that had been dumped in the middle of the lot along with other trash.

Coordinates are 37.74354, -122.37891 - car entry from Amador Street.
