On Tuesday the 5th, five Harris's Hawks (all together) continued at Jacumba, which lately has comprised 3 adults and 2 immatures (which now look quite a bit like the adults). As has been the case recently, some or all of these birds like to sit on a power pole near the Jacumba Library building right at dawn; after that they become somewhat hit or miss elsewhere in town (e.g., northeast corner). Five has been the high count there since 2022, although the composition of the five has changed, as there were formerly five adults, dropping to three, and then two young birds were added this summer with the successful nesting. The "recent" high-high was ten birds in Nov 2021. In contrast, it is currently unknown whether or not any birds remain in Shelter Valley.
Other birds of some minor note at Jacumba this morning included single Red-naped & Red-breasted Sapsuckers, Vermilion Flycatcher, White-breasted Nuthatch, 5 Lawrence's Goldfinches, 2 Golden-crowned Sparrows, 2 Scott's Orioles, and 2 Tricolored Blackbirds.
