At 9:00 a.m. Weds. there is a single Mountain Plover on the sod farm in the Tijuana River Valley. Actually found this one bird before I saw the post from Matt about two birds up in Chula Vista. The bird is frequenting the entire west portion of the property where there is no sod, but it's a mix of dirt and patches of short weedy grass. Lots of Killdeer here as well. Access is limited. Under no circumstances should one walkem or drive out into the main part of the sod farm. Please stay only along the west side along the little paved road that forms the West boundary of the property. You absolutely need a scope. Photo opportunities are poor .The bird is currently at about the midpoint north to south but also toward the east edge of this dirt so almost up against the beginning of the actual planted, irrigated sod. If people start going all over the property which is forbidden, this could cause serious permanent ramifications, so please refrain from doing so and just stay on this paved road along the west edge and scope there.
Indicative of the continuing increase in Vermilion Flycatcher numbers, this morning I have had four different new individuals at four different spots: Community Gardens, Montgomery Waller Park, Larsen Field, and here along the edge of the sod.
